Little
Weighton Village Hall Centenary Exhibition 1906 to 2006
The Village Hall is 100 years old
this year and on Saturday 20th of May about 200 people
came to help celebrate the event by visiting the exhibition.
There were lots of pleasant trips down memory lane for
many of the visitors and it was also pleasing to see newer
members of the Rowley/Little Weighton community. Judging
by the written and oral feedback, the exhibition was much
appreciated by all the visitors.
The Village Hall Committee would
like to thank all those who generously gave their time
and skills in helping to prepare the exhibition and in
providing the refreshments. Particular thanks go to all
those who lent their precious photographs and other memorabilia,
and also to Harry Nicholson for letting us see part of
his metal detection collection, unearthed over the last
twenty years. Many thanks to all of you who came to see
the exhibition.
As the Village Hall gets into its
stride for the next hundred years, the committee would
be pleased to hear of any developments which you think
we should make to help the village community. As well
as maintaining and improving the fabric and appearance
of the building and improving disabled access, there are
other things which might be done. For example, additional
adult education classes could be run, and these could
be more diverse if the hall had computer access. Perhaps
an archive of photos and memorabilia could be made– possibly
on CD - to show how life in the village has changed over
the last hundred years. If you have any comments or more
ideas then please contact Bert Sorsby on (01482) 875680
