Little Weighton Playing Fields Association

Little Weighton Playing Fields Association / Committee was formed in 1974 to look after the Playing Fields, for the benefit of the inhabitants of the Parish of Rowley. The committee is made up by various interested people from the Village, and meets every two months. It has a public meeting at the Annual General meeting, in May each year, when discussions take place regarding the running of the Playing Fields. There are many Playing Fields Associations through out the country that have the same roll as we have in supporting their local Playing Fields.

The land that the Playing Fields have was purchased for the Village by the Borough Council in the early 1970s, at an all in cost of around £15,000. This land has a public right of way along the southern boundary, which has been clearly identified by the erection of a fence. The purpose of the land is for use as a playing field; children’s play area, for sports and for the bowls club.

For those new to the village the Playing Fields access is at the crossroads White Gap Road / Rowley Road. This is the single track road going north, between the gardens of West Garth and The Close.

The present Committee continues raising funds to keep the Playing Fields available for the use of the Village of all ages. We pay for the Electricity, Water, Insurance, Grounds Maintenance, Building Maintenance, and the rent of the land from East Yorkshire Council. All of these costs amount to around £6,000 per year. We are grateful to Rowley Parish Council, who makes a major contribution to these costs, and all of our fund raisers, and all the people who attend our various fund raising functions.

We can not charge for the use of the Playing Fields, so rely on funding to keep the playing fields open, so all can enjoy the facilities. The Playing Fields committee are always open to fund raising suggestions, and help to continue to keep the Playing Fields open, so if you would like to help in any way please contact any committee member or call or ring me Ken Davison 842570.
